The Typing Problem

Natural language input still requires natural language typing

Fantastical's parser is brilliant. Type 'Lunch with Sarah tomorrow at noon at Cafe Milano' and it just works. But you still have to type it. Your fingers hunt for keys while your brain already knows the complete sentence. The parser waits for input that could flow from your voice in a fraction of the time.

Meeting notes get skipped because typing takes too long

The event is created in seconds with natural language. Then you click into notes to add context: agenda items, preparation needed, what to bring. Suddenly you're typing paragraphs. So you skip the notes entirely. Next week you open the event and have no idea what it was actually about.

Complex events require too many keystrokes

You need to schedule 'Weekly team standup every Monday at 9am in the Oak conference room with video backup link and notes about rotating facilitators'. That's easy to say out loud. It's tedious to type, especially on a laptop keyboard between meetings. So you create a bare event and lose all the useful details.

Calendar sets become typing marathons

You're blocking out focus time for a project. You need six events across two weeks with different notes for each block: 'Review research', 'Draft outline', 'Write first section'. Easy to speak, painful to type repeatedly. By the third event, you're just creating blank time blocks.

Event titles stay vague because detailed ones take effort

Instead of 'Q4 planning session with marketing team to review campaign performance and set next quarter priorities', you type 'Planning'. Three months later your calendar history is useless. Every event called 'Call' or 'Meeting' tells you nothing about what you actually did with your time.

How It Works

Blurt works in any text field in Fantastical — the quick event parser, event titles, notes, or location fields. Just hold, speak, release.

Real Scenarios

Adding detailed meeting notes without breaking flow

The event exists but needs context. Click into notes and speak: 'Agenda: Review Q3 sales numbers, discuss territory realignment proposal, finalize commission structure changes. Sarah to bring updated comp model. I need to review legal's feedback before the meeting.' Your meeting now has everything attendees need to prepare.

Creating recurring events with rich descriptions

Setting up a new team ritual. Speak into the natural language parser: 'Team retrospective every other Friday at 4pm for one hour'. Then add notes: 'Format: Start with wins from the sprint, then discuss what could improve, end with action items. Rotate facilitator each session starting with Alex.' Complete recurring event with context in under 20 seconds.

Voice-powered calendar blocking for deep work

You need focus time scattered through the week. Hold and speak: 'Focus time Monday 9 to 11am for working on quarterly report'. Create another: 'Deep work Tuesday afternoon 2 to 5 for presentation prep'. Each event has context. Your calendar shows what the blocked time is actually for, not just generic 'busy' blocks.

Capturing appointment details from a phone call

You're on the phone scheduling a dentist appointment. They say 'Tuesday the 15th at 2:30pm'. With Blurt, hold your hotkey while still on the call and whisper: 'Dentist appointment Tuesday the 15th at 2:30pm at Bright Smile Dental on Main Street.' Event created before you hang up, complete with location.

Adding context to synced calendar events

A meeting invite arrived from someone else. You accept it but need to add your own notes about what to prepare. Click into the event notes and speak: 'Prepare updated project timeline. Bring concerns about Q1 deadline. Ask about additional budget for contractor support.' Your prep notes are captured in seconds.

Quick event creation while walking to your next meeting

You're between meetings and remember something you need to schedule. Pull up Fantastical's menu bar widget, hold your hotkey: 'Remind me to call mom on Sunday at 5pm'. Or: 'Block 30 minutes tomorrow morning to review Sarah's proposal before our 11am.' Events created while moving, no typing required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Blurt work with Fantastical's natural language parser?
Perfectly. Blurt simply converts your voice to text. That text goes into Fantastical's input field where its parser works exactly as if you typed it. Say 'Lunch tomorrow at noon with Sarah at Cafe Milano' and Fantastical will parse the date, time, and location just as it would from typing.
Can I use Blurt with Fantastical on iPhone or iPad?
Blurt is currently macOS only. It works great with Fantastical on your Mac, but you'll need to type or use iOS dictation on mobile devices. Most detailed calendar management happens at your desk anyway.
Will Blurt work in both the menu bar widget and main Fantastical window?
Yes. Blurt works in any text field on your Mac. The menu bar quick entry, the main app window, event detail views, notes fields — anywhere you can type in Fantastical, you can use Blurt instead.
How does Blurt handle dates and times in speech?
Blurt transcribes what you say accurately, including dates and times. When you say 'next Thursday at 2pm', Blurt types exactly that. Fantastical's parser then interprets the date and time. The two work together seamlessly.
Can I dictate while on a video call?
Yes, if you're muted. Blurt uses your microphone independently of call software. You can be muted on Zoom and still dictate calendar updates in Fantastical. Just don't unmute while speaking to Blurt.
What does Blurt cost?
Blurt offers a permanent free tier of first 1,000 words free — enough for many calendar entries. Pro is $10 per month or $99 per year for unlimited transcription.
Does Blurt work on Windows or Linux?
Blurt is macOS only. We focused on creating the best possible Mac experience with native menu bar integration and system-level keyboard shortcuts. Windows and Linux versions are not currently available.
